SASSA cards can still be used until 30 September 2018. The new SASSA card will be available from 01 May 2018 to new applicants of social grants.

As from May 2018, SASSA will start with changing of the old SASSA card to the new SASSA card for the existing beneficiaries. The changing of the cards will take place at venues identified by SASSA such as community halls. SASSA will let you know about the venues through radio, newspapers, community organizations, etc.

Bedridden and frail beneficiaries will be provided with the contact number to request for a home visit for the changing of the card.

The change of the old SASSA card to new SASSA card for beneficiaries withdrawing their grants through banks ATMs and shops will happen as follows:

  • May and June 2018 - Older persons and persons with disability
  • July and August 2018 - Children’s grants

The change of the old SASSA card to new SASSA card for beneficiaries withdrawing their grants at PAY-POINTS (community halls, tribal authorities, other community structures) will happen at the place where they receive their grant in the following months:

  • July and August 2018

Beneficiaries who receive their grant through their private bank accounts do not need to get the new SASSA card. These beneficiaries will continue to receive their grant in their private bank accounts.
