The Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS), in collaboration with Overstrand Libraries, are once again looking to appoint young people to assist and support libraries with various outreach programmes in their communities.

The YearBeyond Libraries Programme offers two streams of work: Youth can work as a ‘Reading Champion’ or ‘ICT Champion’.

If you want to help learners develop reading skills or if you are a tech savvy individual wanting to promote ICT in your community this programme could be for you!

The YeBoneers will be working for the Overstrand libraries in Hawston, Hermanus, Mt Pleasant (which include the community of Zwelihle), Stanford, Gansbaai, Buffeljachts, Exuloxweni and Betty’s Bay.

This initiative aims to provide 18 to 25 year-olds with a meaningful work experience and a pathway to studies or work.

While this is not a job, a small stipend is paid to cover transport and cell phone costs.

This opportunity requires an 11-month, full-time commitment Mondays to Fridays. No qualifications needed.

Minimum requirements

  • Must be between 18 – 25 years old
  • Must live within the Western Cape
  • Must live within a 5km radius of a participating library
  • Must have a passion for either working with learners and reading OR a passion for ICT

Applications for the YearBeyond Programme close on 17 March 2023.

Online applications only. Visit your nearest library for more information or to access internet services. Alternatively visit the YearBeyond website at www.yearbeyond.org; log in or create a profile on SAYouth.mobi – https://sayouth.mobi/View/DirectOpportunity…
