At a Special Council meeting held on Monday, 20 February 2023 in Hermanus’ banqueting hall, Overstrand’s Municipal Council addressed the grievances submitted by the Land Party at a protest on 9 February.
Council resolved the following.
- That the tender process for the appointment of an implementing (turnkey) agent for Dubai continues along with a workshop on how government works and what the implementing agent will be responsible for, and that, once the implementing agent has been appointed, it will work directly with all stakeholders and the social compact committee.
- That the Speaker will investigates the claims of racism towards the Executive Mayor and claims of a ‘puppet’ towards the Deputy Mayor; if nothing was reported to the Speaker by Friday, 24 February 2023, the matter will be referred to the Human Rights Commission.
The Mayor will also forward the Speaker a voice note implicating her as corrupt mayor and threatening to take her out, to form part of the investigation. A request for a workshop on racism was also granted and will be arranged for the Councillors. - The request by the Land Party to place a moratorium on all land sales was rejected. It was once again emphasised that there are no registered land claims on any of the 12 pockets of land that is earmarked for investment.
- That Lenvalco be requested to submit reports to the Municipality on safety, health and environmental issues as well as a report on dust particle discharge on a regular basis.
