A whopping 227 events were recorded in Overstrand during September 2022 compared to the 136 recorded in the previous month, August. This excludes markets, Park Runs and repeat events. This is a big step up from the previous year when the Overstrand had only 33 events in August and 88 events in September 2021.
Overstrand Executive Mayor, Dr Annelie Rabie, said this is a huge ‘wow’ moment.
“We’re making up for the previous two years, when there were many restrictions impacting negatively on tourism events. Increased events mean an increase in opportunities. We have been fortunate to welcome so many people visiting the past month.”
Mayor Rabie extended a thank you to the municipal staff who were responsible for ensuring that Overstrand provided holidaymakers and residents with a favourable environment to enjoy quality time with family and friends. Of particular note is the solid waste removal and law enforcement teams, ensuring a clean and safe environment.
“Despite load shedding and budget challenges we are doing as much as we can with the resources available. It is heart-warming to see so many local restaurants on the just released 2022 TripAdvisor Travel Choice Awards. This shows that service excellence does not go unnoticed,” she said.
The mayor invites people to visit and make the most of the Overstrand’s gems and unique attractions. A weekly diary available on Overstrand Tourism’s website and at the Visitor Centres in Hermanus, Kleinmond, Stanford and Gansbaai can help with ideas of what to do and where to go.
