Report Baboons
The dedicated baboon hotline number for reporting baboon issues and incidents for the
Eastern Region (Hermanus/Voëlklip) is 072 028 0008.
The dedicated baboon hotline number for reporting baboon issues and incidents for the
Western Region (Kleinmond, Betty’s Bay and Pringle Bay) is 069 1515 962.
Residents have a responsibility to manage their waste properly and to secure their waste bins before the baboons get hold of them. No black bags may be left on pavements.
Please assist the Overstrand Municipality by securely storing your waste and complying with the Integrated Waste Management By-Law by only putting waste out on the waste collection day only in an animal proof container.
Alternatively, should you not have an animal proof container, you may deliver your waste directly to the Transfer Station instead of placing in on the curb side for collection by the waste collection teams.
Overstrand Municipality’s Solid Waste by-law stipulates clearly that each owner or occupier must use animal-proof containers in areas that the Municipality has identified as problem animal areas. The declared problem animal areas for Hermanus East include Voëlklip, Fernkloof (including the Golf Estate), Hermanus Heights, Eastcliff and Kwaaiwater.
In Betty’s Bay and Pringle Bay, the Overstrand Eco-monitors (aka baboon criers) are patrolling the area to warn residents in Hangklip-Kleinmond that the baboon troop has entered the town so they can close doors and windows timeously.
