The emergency siren test for the bulk Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) depot at the Hermanus Business Park in Sandbaai, did not meet the requirements of the Fire Services.
Although the siren could be heard by the immediate neighbours, it did not meet the required estimated kilometre radius.
To maximise audibility of the siren, and as an additional precaution, a second siren will be installed at the Gas Hub Bulk Storage Facility. The sirens will face opposite sides of the facility.
A follow-up siren test is scheduled for later this week and residents will be notified. The sound will last for ± one minute. Residents should take note and not be alarmed.
