‘Hot like a red spot/Warm soos ‘n rooi alarm’ is this year’s theatre play that has been carefully crafted by Celesté Loriston of local theatre company, Story Team, to help school children learn an important lesson about the choices they make that may have a negative impact on global warming and the environment.
The theatre production is part of Overstrand Municipality’s awareness drive to encourage and teach primary school learners the importance of every drop of water and why they should look after the water resources we have.
The message for the Story Team characters was clear: Build and create warriors for the future conservation of the earth.
The Municipality is of the opinion that even though the children have heard similar messages before, interactive play helps with learning and can be used successfully to reinforce that message – and hopefully this will stay with them for life.
This year’s educational theatre production will reach 1 765 grade 4 and 5 learners of Laerskool Gansbaai, Okkie Smuts Primary, Mount Pleasant Primary, Waldorf School, Hermanus Primary, Lukhanyo Primary, Masakhane Primary, Hawston Primary and Laerskool Kleinmond.
