Electricity meter Inspectors coming to your home

Overstrand Municipality requests that the community assist by granting meter inspectors access to their homes for inspections and audits of the electricity meters.

Meter inspectors from Spectrum Utility Management (SUM) will be visiting homes in the Overstrand over the coming months.

The inspection teams will work six days a week, visiting homes between the hours of 07:00 and 18:00, Monday to Saturday.

Main purposes of this project:

  • To identify and replace faulty electricity meters.
  • To identify and rectify unsafe electricity meter installations.
  • To identify and rectify illegal use of electricity, including meter tampering and unsafe distribution.
  • To tag all circuit breakers supplying electricity meters in the area

Inspectors will carry an ID card identifying them as a SUM employees contracted by the Overstrand Municipality. This card will include a colour photo of the bearer, their identity number, name and a municipal contact number for residents who wish to confirm identities.

Please note that inspectors are authorised, in accordance with our by-laws, to inspect your electricity meter.

Always remember:

  • Inspectors are NOT allowed to take money from anyone.
  • Inspectors are NOT permitted to undertake any private work for residents.
