The Mayor and some of her executive team together with the MM met with senior officials from Eskom today to discuss possible collaboration on issues of communication and a better level of servicing Eskoms’s direct customers in the Overstrand.
It was agreed that Eskom must take responsibility for engaging their customers effectively during their outages and that the municipality cannot act as the middleman between them.
Eskom agreed that they need to up their game in terms of providing consumer friendly advice and support on the applications and systems available to log calls and meter readings as well as innovative ways to receive accounts and make enquiries.
There was also agreement that an opportunity would be created where Eskom can present the maintenance plans and schedules as well as projected budgets for the Overstrand area. More on this will be shared when the venue and time for the event is finalised.
Eskom also expressed their gratitude for the assistance from the municipality with the trimming if trees under the power lines in Main Road, Onrus, yesterday. Residents are reminded that should trees on their properties touch the power lines and they want to trim it, they immediately contact Eskom as the lines need to be deactivated before any work starts.
Mayor Rabie indicated that she intends to have similar quarterly engagements to ensure sustainable collaboration with Eskom.
