SURVEY RESULTS OUT: Majority of residents oppose mediator appointment for baboons
The survey on appointing an independent mediator for baboon related human conflicts in Pringle Bay has shown that most residents voted against the idea.
A total of 647 residents took part in the survey with 268 voted ‘Yes’ and 379 voted ‘No’.
After removing duplicate or invalid IDs/erf numbers, the total valid votes were 556, with 42% in favour and 58% against.
Further refining the data by excluding IDs that did not match those of the property owners resulted in 404 valid votes. Of these, 158 residents (39%) voted ‘Yes,’ while 246 (61%) voted ‘No’ on the appointment of a mediator in Pringle Bay.
The existing Adaptive Baboon Management Plan, a proven non-lethal approach for managing the Pringle Bay baboon troop, will continue as planned. We kindly ask the support of residents so that we can work together to ensure a workable future for the town, its residents, properties, businesses, and baboons.
