Celebrating fire crew this International Firefighters’ Day

4 May is International Firefighters’ Day! This day is a special time to honour and recognise the sacrifices made by firefighters to ensure that their communities and environment are protected.

It is also a day to reflect and remember all the fire fighters who have lost their lives – we will be thinking of our colleagues who have lost their lives fighting fires.

Overstrand Executive Mayor, Dr Annelie Rabie said the firefighting men and women dedicate their lives to protect life, property, pets and wildlife. That dedication may be in the form of countless hours volunteered over many years, or many selfless years working in the industry. “In all cases, it risks the ultimate sacrifice of a firefighter’s life – and we cannot thank them enough”, she said

The Mayor also conveyed her appreciation to their families for allowing them to live their passion.

“Thank you to all current and past firefighters and administrative personnel for their contribution”.

Overstrand Municipality is proud of its Protection Services Directorate!
