The bridge on the Coastal Boardwalk in front of the Windsor Hotel in Hermanus is structurally unsafe and will remain closed to the public for the foreseeable future and as a safety precaution.
Residents and visitors have questioned the reason for this lengthy closure.
The bridge, which has a span of 13.5 meters and is positioned approximately 5 meters above the coastal rocks, needs to be rebuilt. The damaged to the bridge is quite extensive and the estimated cost of repair, is currently being calculated.
Council will only be able to consider the funding of repairs once the costs have been received.
However, in order to allow pedestrians, the opportunity of walking on the scenic boardwalk, both ends will be re-opened, but will only allow limited viewing up to the bridge section.
