Electricity meter inspection and audit project in full swing

Electricity meter inspection and audit project in full swing

Overstrand Municipality is currently conducting an audit of all electricity meters within the Overstrand supply area.

This process involves the inspection and audit of all electricity meters supplied by Overstrand Municipality. Please note that this audit does not include Eskom meters.

The audit covers the following types of meters:

  • Prepaid meters (which may be located partially outside and inside your home)
  • Conventional meters (usually mounted on external walls)
  • Automatic Geyser Control (ACD) units (typically found near the DB board inside your home)

The inspections will be carried out by Spectrum Utility Management (SUM) field technicians on behalf of Overstrand Municipality, and will continue until 30 June 2026, when the tender period concludes.

The field technicians may require access to both the erf and the inside of your home, depending on where your meter is located. They will be working six days a week, from 07:00 to 18:00, Monday to Saturday.

It will be appreciated if you can arrange for access to your premises. If technicians are unable to access your property, they will leave a notice requesting you contact the Electricity Department to schedule a convenient time for the inspection.

Identification of Inspectors:

Inspectors will present official ID cards from Spectrum Utility Management (SUM), verifying their authorisation by Overstrand Municipality.

The ID card will display:

  • A photograph of the field technician
  • Their full name and identity number
  • A contact number for verification with the Municipality

A list of the inspectors, including their photos and names, will be attached to this notice for your reference.

Main purposes of this project:

  • To identify and replace faulty electricity meters.
  • To identify and rectify unsafe electricity meter installations.
  • To identify and rectify illegal use of electricity, including meter tampering and unsafe distribution.
  • To tag all circuit breakers supplying electricity meters in the area

Security Reminder:

Residents are urged to allow only authorised personnel with official identification cards to enter their premises. If you have any concerns about the identity of an inspector, please call the Overstrand Municipality or the Electricity Department to verify their details.

For any further information, please contact Overstrand Municipality at 028 313 8000 or the Electricity Department on 028 316 5600.
