On 14 September 2023, Mayors and Municipal Managers in the Overberg District met with Patricia de Lille, Minister of Tourism, in Bredasdorp.
This follows the successful Overstrand Tourism Indaba held last week by the Overstrand Municipality in celebration of tourism month.
Mayor Rabie and Municipal Manager Dean O’Neill represented the Overstrand.
The Minister pledged her commitment to a better understanding of Agri-tourism and will visit Overstrand in December 2023, by invitation of Mayor Rabie.
She will come and experience what Overstrand and indeed the Overberg region has to offer in terms of agri-tourism.
Minister de Lille said tourism is a significant economic lever supporting and creating many direct and indirect jobs. “Tourism is the golden thread that links a host of other sectors with the ultimate goal of delivering a world class South African experience,” she added.
Mayor Rabie said she trusts that positive relations will be forged to enhance the growth of tourism and the economy locally.
