It has been both an honour and a privilege to serve as the Executive Mayor of the Overstrand. The friendships I have made, the lessons I have learned and the opportunities that I have had will remain with me for all time.
As a loyal citizen of the area I will not be completely lost as I intend to assist in the work we have been doing as and when I am required to, albeit as an ordinary councillor.
I urge you to capitalise on the successes we’ve achieved by rededicating yourselves to constructively working together towards one nation pillared on the noble values of non-racism, non-sexism and the unity of the South African people.
I would like to thank you for all the support you have given me during my term in office and for working together to establish the stable council we now enjoy. The transformed and strengthened council has become not only a key forum for political dialogue, reflection and dispute, but an important and real centre of decision-making, one shaping the future of the Overstrand and its citizens.
When we came into office in 2011 we made a commitment to residents to improve their lives through accelerated delivery of services and the implementation of developmental programmes that they can directly participate and benefit from.
This is exactly what we have striven towards as a developmental and progressive town.
However it’s important that the solid foundation and good work we’ve put in place continues beyond the current term. This will ensure greater impact in creating access to economic and social opportunities for more residents of the Overstrand and certainly improve the quality of life for the many who live in the area.
As a council we are surrounded by some of the best department heads in the country, working together like a well-oiled machine. I am so proud of each and every one of our municipal manager, directors and staff members. They made our jobs so much easier and made us look good.
I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the nominated mayoral candidates for the Overstrand in the 2016 Municipal elections.
I have no doubt they will be equal to the task at hand.
I step down knowing the Overstrand is strong and the spirit of its people is remarkable. The future remains excellent. I wish the members of the incumbent council all the very best.
I thank you. Ek dank u. Enkosi.
