In an attempt to make a difference each in his or her own way, Overstranders went full out to devote their 67 minutes' worth of community service in honour of Madiba.

Municipal employees Daleen Potgieter, Karin van der Merwe, Virgil Lamour and Anga Gxoyiya of the Human Resources Department also embraced the charitable spirit of Mandela Day; goody bags were handed to the children and teachers at Nomzamo Creche in Zwelihle.

The goodwill and contributions in the name of Mandela Day kept on going as Overstrand law enforcement officers Fisher, Nadeema, Reginald and Kepka set about handing out blankets and food parcels to the Overstrand Association for People with Disabilities (OAPD) in Hawston.

While their colleagues commemorated Mandela Day in Hawston, fire fighters Wongalethu Mapapa, Cecil Abrahamse, Ebrahim Isaacs and Suzaan Stanley also did their bit to honour the legacy of Madiba; they volunteered to make home-made soup to give to the hungry and homeless.

Let us never forget the legacy that he left. Let us strive each day to uphold the values he held so dear.
