The area between the Cenotaph War Memorial and Gearing’s Point at the Old Harbour in Hermanus, seems to be the dumping site of choice these days.
Household garbage was cleared from this popular tourism area earlier in the week.
Please, THINK BEFORE YOU DUMP. Let’s keep our neighbourhoods clean, green, safe and healthy.
The problem is, however, not limited to this area.
Solid waste officials said littering and illegal dumping of garden and household refuse happens in many areas of the Municipality and is difficult to enforce “unless we catch somebody in the act”.
Residents are kindly requested to immediately report any incidents of illegal dumping of household waste and garden refuse or builders’ rubble to Overstrand Law Enforcement on 028 313 8996.
When you report unlawful dumping of household waste, garden refuse and/or builders’ rubble to Law Enforcement, please provide as much information as you can, like the names of alleged perpetrators, vehicle registration or colour of the vehicle and the type of waste. You don’t need a photograph of the perpetrator, but it will strengthen the case for a warning or fine to be issued.
Don’t let illegal dumpers get away with it. Report it.
Remember, the municipal solid waste team work to a set schedule and visit different areas at different times of the week, picking up household rubbish and waste.
