“Alcohol and roads don’t mix. The Overberg District has adopted a zero tolerance approach to anyone intent on breaking the law.”
This sobering announcement was made at the launch of the Overberg District’s Festive Season Road Safety campaign – a joint operation between the Western Cape Department of Transport and Public Works, the Cape Agulhas, Theewaterskloof and Overstrand municipalities, the South African Police Service Overberg Cluster, as well as relevant emergency management and disaster management services in the area.
The Festive Season activities of the Overberg District Safety Plan (DSP) were unveiled at a specially held ceremony at the NG Kerk in Caledon on Friday, 9 December 2016. The DSP – which runs from 1 October 2016 through to 31 March 2017 - is an integrated enforcement, education and engineering project associated with those elements that could affect road safety in the Caledon Traffic Centre operational area.
