The Council meeting held on Thursday, 26 February 2015, was a special celebratory day for the staff of the two libraries that made a name in the Western Cape list by walking away with Awards. Mayor Nicolette Botha-Guthrie congratulated both libraries and accepted the awards on behalf of the Municipality from the Managers of Hawston and Hermanus Library.
In light of its goal to create a sense of confidence and pride amongst the peoples of the Western Cape in the historic, cultural and linguistic value of their heritage, this year’s annual award ceremony hosted by the Provincial Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport held at the Baxter Theatre on Monday 9 February recognised those who made a particular contribution towards creating a colourfully inclusive Cape.
With these criteria in mind, and given that institutions from all over the province were in the running, Hawston Library deserves a special accolade for having walked off as winner in the category "Best Public Library: Youth Service" and, to top it all, bagging the Minister's special award in the "outstanding achievement in the arts and culture, language, heritage, geographical names, museums, libraries or archives" category intended for the youth.
