Hermanus welcomes first cruise liner

The Overstrand Municipality is delighted to announce that after a number of successful negotiations with stakeholders in the industry, the first cruise liner will drop anchor in Walker Bay in December 2022.

Passengers will come ashore for day excursions including biking, shark cage diving, wine tasting and generally exploring our beautiful towns.

This is a first for Overstrand and particularly Hermanus and other cruise line stops will include Hermanus in their itinerary in future.

Overstrand Executive Mayor, Dr Annelie Rabie, expressed her excitement and indicated that this will provide a much needed economic boost to the area.

She will meet with the business chambers to ensure that related businesses will be open and ready to receive these tourists and further indicated that the Municipality will also explore other means to welcome them ashore.

“We need to explore and grab every opportunity to increase the number of tourists to our towns as it has the ability to grow the local economy and provide much needed jobs. Let us show that we are ready and open for business and welcome our visitors with enthusiasm,” Mayor Rabie added.
