Hermanus CBD registered, and ‘official’ car guards received new uniforms, to ensure they are neatly dressed and easily identifiable.
The uniforms consist of a blue overall jacket and pants, a blue bib and a cap. Each car guard’s name and photo appear on his jacket.
The 27 car guards are not officially employed by the Overstrand Municipality and operate independently – but now that they are registered and official, there is better control to ensure they are sober, polite and presentable.
Each car guard has been allocated a specific parking area to cover at Gearing’s Point, Sharklady, Clicks, Market Square and red stalls, FNB parking, Swallow Park, Church Plain, Harbour Road, Bientang’s Cave, The Marine Hotel, Rossi’s and behind Jet.
Overstrand Executive Mayor, Dr Annelie Rabie, encouraged the car guards to be helpful and friendly so as to make it an enjoyable and pleasant experience for people to visit Hermanus and also to know that they are parking in a safe area.
If there are any complaints or queries relating to the car guard programme, contact Law Enforcement on 028 313 8996. Alternatively send an email to grantgillion@overstrand.gov.za with the location or address, time of incident and any other information that might be useful to solve the issue. The 24-hour day to day law enforcement complaints contact number is also on the back of their bibs.
