Overstrand Municipality celebrated its Waste Management Team’s remarkable achievement of securing second place in the Western Cape Municipal Waste Management Recognition Awards.
Saldanha earned first place, while Drakenstein took third in the annual competition organised by the Western Cape Local Government’s Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning (DEA&DP). The awards were made on Thursday, August 15 in Cape Town, during the quarterly Western Cape Waste Managers Forum.
The competition was tight, with just a one-percentage point difference between first and second placed municipalities. Overall, the evaluations showed improvements in the scores achieved by eight of the municipalities in the province.
The recognition award, which has replaced the Greenest Municipality competition, aims to drive improvements in waste management services.
