Plight of African penguins highlighted on Children’s Day

To celebrate International Children’s Day on 1 June, Overstrand Municipality visited Masakhane Primary School in Gansbaai to make the children part of this important day.

Because the African penguin is in real danger of extinction, the Overstrand Tourism team used the opportunity to collaborate with Dyer Island Conservation Trust to raise awareness of the penguins and ensure that learners know that we need to care better for the ocean to protect species like the African penguin, that is found along the Overstrand coastline.

Mayor Rabie is a firm believer that every child should have the right to feel safe and be protected.

She encouraged parents and family members to make time for quality experiences with the children in their lives.

The Mayor thanked the teachers and educators – and everyone – who make our youth’s lives a little better.
