Sandbaai memorial tiles damaged

Overstrand Executive Mayor, Dr Annelie Rabie, expressed her shock after learning that the Sandbaai Coastal Path memorial tiles was vandalised last night. A total of 27 tiles were destroyed on the western side, leading to Onrus.

“It is heart breaking to see this happening,” the Mayor said.

A reward of R5 000 is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the broken tiles. Contact Pierre le Roux at 082 603 5049.

The removal of stop signs, along with the theft of municipal flags, poles, flowers, and shrubs, seems to increase during the summer holiday. These actions are far from harmless. Removing stop signs is especially dangerous and can lead to serious accidents.

Mayor Rabie reminded the public that vandalism costs the municipality and ratepayers hundreds of thousands of rands annually, taking away funds that could be used for other community projects.

She urged parents and grandparents to talk to their children and visitors about the importance of respecting public property. The vandals are often seen deliberately breaking and removing stop signs, likely after being out for the night.
