About 600 beneficiaries received title deeds in Overstrand today from the Provincial Minister of Infrastructure Tertius Simmers. The Minister was accompanied by the Overstrand Executive Mayor Dr Annelie Rabie, Deputy Mayor Ald Lindile Ntsabo, MMC for Community Services Cllr Ronald Nutt, councilors, and senior officials.
Four areas in Overstrand were visited and the message to all beneficiaries was the same. Speaking at one of the gatherings for Zwelihle and Mt Pleasant recipients, the Executive Mayor, highlighted, the importance of the document received, and how it translates to money. “This document gives you value and dignity”, Mayor reminded the beneficiaries. She further, stated, “people will approach you to sell your houses, it is important, that you know, once it is sold, you will never receive a house again anywhere in the country.”
As beneficiaries, “look after your houses, you have children, husbands and wives, this must be a testimony to them that you own a house. Therefore, you must draw up a will”, Mayor advised.
Following the Executive Mayor, Minister Tertius Simmers, explained that, “Home ownership is not just about owning property, it is also about empowering families and communities. As we hand over these title deeds in the Overstrand Municipality, we reaffirm our commitment to ensuring that every deserving citizen has the security and dignity of owning their own home”.
The gatherings were closed off by MMC for Community Services, Mr Ronald Nutt, who thanked the Minister and the Mayor for the role they played in realising today’s events as well as all the role players.
