Work on the Bosplasie sewer line that washed away on 25 September 2023, has been completed. All connections have been restored and no further contamination is expected to take place from this source.
Work still needs to be done on securing the manholes and raising the height of the pumpstation. This will hopefully be completed before the contractors’ holiday commences in December.
Overstrand Executive Mayor, Dr Annelie Rabie, was delighted that the work was completed a mere six weeks after the disaster.
The Onrus beach and estuary also took a serious hammering.
Mayor Rabie indicated her concern about ensuring the water quality was safe for recreational use in both the estuary and the ocean, and the repair of this sewerage line brings great relief.
The Mayor expressed her gratitude to all involved in ensuring that Onrus Beach will be open for use during the holiday season.
Although Onrus Beach will not have full Blue Flag status this year, the fact that it will be open for safe public use for the holiday season after the disaster, is a real blessing.
Work on the clearing of the debris continues, and will hopefully be completed within the next two weeks.
