Work has started to upgrade the Kleinmond sports ground, situated opposite the Proteadorp Community Hall on the R44.

Since the end of last year, grass has been planted, and topsoil and water have been applied to get the rugby field ready for the new season.

The next improvement involves upgrading the existing floodlights, as they no longer meet the required standards. To resolve this, Overstrand Municipality applied for Municipal Infrastructure Grant (MIG) funding, which was approved in October 2024.

Six floodlights using LED lights designed to provide 150 lux club-level illumination along with six 15m masts and the necessary electrical infrastructure and cable network, will be installed.

On 24 February 2025, the contractor began excavation work and concrete pouring is planned within the next two weeks. After the concrete is poured, it will require a curing period of 21 to 28 days to achieve the necessary strength. Following this, the installation of the masts and floodlights will begin, with the project scheduled for completion by 18 April 2025.

The total cost of the project, including fees and construction, is estimated at R 2.1 million (excluding VAT).
