Cape Town will be hosting the 2023 Netball World Cup from Friday 28 July and we look forward to support women’s sports; and ultimately continuing with the development of Netball in the Overstrand.
Overstrand Executive Mayor, Dr Annelie Rabie, says most people enjoy playing sports because it is a great way to stay active and healthy. She added that there is important life lessons one can take away from being involved in sports: Show up for practice, work hard, play by the rules; respect fellow team players and opponents and look after the friendships you have made.
The Mayor encourages residents to wear any sports T-shirts on Fridays to support the Netball Friday campaign (the same way we do with Bok Fridays).
If you are in the Hermanus area and keen on catching a match or two of the Netball World Cup 2023, the Thusong Centre in Hawston will be screening the following games:
- Australia v Zimbabwe: Friday 28 July at 11am
- Opening Ceremony: Friday 28 July at 4pm
- South Africa v Wales: Friday 28 July at 6pm
- Zimbabwe v Fiji: Friday 29 July at 11am
- South Africa v Sri Lanka: Saturday 29 July at 4pm
- Malawi v Barbados: Sunday 30 July at 11am
- Jamaica v South Africa: Sunday 30 July at 6pm
In addition, the Hermanus Netball Club is inviting sports lovers to watch the opening match with them at the Brewery, Hemel-en-Aarde Village at 16:00.
We wish the Protea Netball Team all the best of luck as they take to the court.
